Meet Heather

Heather Blanchard, MFT, RDH

With a background as a Registered Dental Hygienist, I strongly feel as though I am in an ideal position to help others successfully achieve proper oral rest posture. The mouth has been my home for the last 10 years and my experience has made me very familiar with the anatomy of the the head and neck and all things in between (like the tongue, lips, cheeks, palate, etc).

As a recovering mouth breather—I knew I wasn’t supposed to mouth breathe from going to the dentist as a child but no one ever told me why or more importantly how to change it. I didn’t know that my dysfunction could be contributing to my neck pain, anxiety, poor posture, daytime fatigue, digestive issues or open bite after a history of orthodontics (braces).

Although it is crazy to think that as a dental professional I was never taught about the role of tongue function and nasal breathing, I am thankful that I became aware of this life changing information (literally!) through a continuing education course and the rest is history. I feel so passionate about learning everything I can in order to help spread awareness about the importance of proper oral rest posture, nasal breathing and overall health/wellness.

I have nose dived into all things myofunctional therapy and completed training to become an Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist through Airway Health Solutions with Karese Laguerre and Brittny Sciarra. In addition to OMT, I have also completed the Buteyko Method training with Patrick McKeown through The Buteyko Clinic International. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Health and Kinesiology from The University of Texas at Tyler and an Associate of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene from Temple College.

I pride myself on my history of helping patients achieve their goals through individualized care and feel very dedicated about doing so with a holistic mindset and team approach. I will make it my mission to advocate for my myo clients throughout their entire program at The Tongue & Body Connection.

Every person is unique and so is their tongue! I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you and hope we can work together so you, too, can start living.
